Ever since Olivier Rousteing was appointed as Creative Director for Balmain—in 2011, at the age of just 25—the French house has had a resurgence of recognition for its bold designs, helping celebrities like Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, Margot Robbie, and Beyonce Knowles shine fearlessly on the red carpet. While continuing to draw inspiration from the French house’s early roots creating courageous haute couture in postwar Paris, Rousteing has also evolved the brand, opening its first stand-alone boutiques outside of the City of Light, as well as creating ready-to-wear pieces with the tailoring and embellishments typically found at the couture level.
