Born in Colombia, 51-year-old designer Johanna Ortiz has been coming the Miami since she was a child and has spent decades developing a signature aesthetic that combines both cultures. A vibrant mix of artisanally crafted pieces, inspired by her home country but that are easily translated into any environment, her collections always deliver a stunning mix of frilly dresses, eye-catching tops, and unexpected skirts and pants. “The palm tree has always been my signifier,” says Ortiz, “since I started 20 years ago, because in my country, in Colombia, I see the trees and mountains all around where I live. I wake up to a really tropical vibe. And for me, the palm tree is feminine in the way it sways.
